My goal is to gain an individualized, personal, and local perspective of a different culture. I will be able to do this by interviewing three international students. Because it is a personal interview, I am hoping to gain a personal perspective that will be different from any cultural information that could be obtained through literary and Internet resources. To begin this process, I will do preparation work by writing questions and finding international students to interview. I will then interview them by asking questions about both their home country and personal life. Hopefully, a conversation will form from these questions. Finally, I will complete a written analysis of a country, overall written summary of this process, and the written transcript. Through the process of this assignment with an international student, I hope to gain more understanding and knowledge of another country. I also hope to make a new friend.
Core Questions (my proposal):
- How many children are usually in a family?
- What are the differences and similarities with the education system in your home country compared to the United States?
- How do people socialize every day?
- What are important festivals and how do you celebrate them?
- Do you follow a religion? If so, how does it affect you, such as beliefs, daily life, and preferences?
- What is the political system?
- What is the most popular food?
- What is the most common form of transportation?
- How do you usually spend your free time?
- How does dating work in your home country?
